(From it ConM,K>ndent.) The advertised cofttiert in aid of the Kaeo Parsonage famishing fund eventuated on April 26th, in hall, and proved to be a most successful venture for all concerned. All the items were rendered in a most creditable manner. The audience was most appreciative and orderly; in fact the people of this district are to bo complimented on the wholehearted manner in which they support all benefit functions. Herewith I attach a detailed list of items and names of performers ;—Pianoforte duet, Mis. A. Garton and Miss Wilkinson ; song, “ Sing me to Sleep,” Mrs. C. Garton ; phonograph selection, Mr. J. Olsen; soug, ‘‘The Deathless Army,” Mr. John Garton; song, “Douglas Gordon,” Miss Ballance; recitation, “Bather Warm,” Mrs. John Garton; song, "The Song that Beached my Heart,” Mrs. Berry; song, “The Better Land,” Mr. White; song, “ Vacant Chair,” Mr. C. Garton; pianoforte solo, “Shades of Evening,” Miss Wilkinson; song, “Oh touch those chords again,” Mr. Shackelton; pianoforte duet, Mrs. A. Garton and Miss Eva Thomas. Interval. Pianoforte duet, Misses Thomas; song, “Tosti’s Goodbye,” Miss Ballance; vocal duet, “ Pulaski’s Banner,” Mis. Berry and Mr. John Garton ; recitation, “ Pied Piper of Hamlin,” Mr. White; song, “ Gates of the West,” Mrs. C. Garton ; several phonograph selections, Mr. J. Olsen; recitation, “The Quarrel,” Mr. John Garton; dance, “ Highland Fling,” Mr. Tothill; song, “On the ltoad to Bangor,” Mr. C. Garton. Mr. Tothill and Mr. C. Garton responded to encore'-'. The cakes so generously supplied ;'„i sale by the ladies were bought most eagerly and devoured most hungrily. Mr. F. Jecentho, though unable to attend the concert, donated a/-. A short dance concluded a most enjoyable evening. [A less detailed report of this concert appeared n last issue.—Ed.] A meeting of the Oruru branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in Thomas’ hall on May 4th. Though only a few members were present they were enthusiastic and unanimous in deciding to send two delegates to the Farmers' Conference, to be held in Auckland on May loth and 16th. Mr. John Garton (President) and Mr. Maugham (Treasurer) were chosen to represent the Oruru branch. It was resolved also “ That the Secretary be instructed to write to the local branch of the Acclimatisation Society, protesting against the importation of Californian quail into this district, because of their particular liking for grass and clover seeds.”
