Death of an old Resident. 54 years in the Colony. WHANGAREI, To-day. Mrs. W. Boult passed away this morning at the advanced age of 93 years, after a residence in the colony of 54 years, 49 of which were spent in Whangarei.

Daring Burglary.

Safe Robbed of JBSO. NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A daring burglary was perpetrated at the Coronation Hotel, Eltham, on Sunday night. The licensee’s trousers, containing the keys of the safe, were removed from his bedroom while he was asleep and £SO in single notes abstracted from the safe. Apparently the thief .was disturbed, as a considerable ampunt in gold and cheques remained Untouched. Indecent Pictures. Man Sentenced to Two Months’ Imprisonment. PALMERSTON NORTH, to-day. W. Good was sentenced to-day to two months’ imprisonment on two charges of selling indecent pictures. A request for the imposition of a fine was refused by Mr. Thompson, S.M., who said that if there was ever a case for imprisonment this was one. Accused had sold seven pictures and had eight others, all of a grossly indecent nature, in his possession when arrested.

Child Kicked by a Horse.

Dies of its Injuries. WHANGAREI, to-day. A child named Lord, the son of a Ruatangata settler, has died from injuries sustained by having been kicked on the head by a horse on Sunday. The “ Herald’s ” athletic contributor received a cablegram from Sydney on Saturday, asking whether Webb would go to Sydney and join Durnan’s “stable.” It is improbable that Webb will go, as it is rumoured that he will be challenged by a Napier oarsman.

W'illiam Alexander Watts, commission agent, a resident of Havelock North, and his son William, a boy aged 11 years, were drowned in the Ngaruroro River at about three o’clock yesterday afternoon. * .. Dropped Dead. Man Dies Suddenly at Christchurch. /.V.a CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A man named Thomas Phillips, who was working on the Midland railway, dropped dead at 10 o’clock on Sunday night. District Engineer’s Death. Locked in his Office. NELSON, Monday. W. A. Shain, the district engineer, war found lying dead in his office late this afternoon. An officer of the Telegraph Department having occasion to enter the adjoining room this morning noticed a dreadful stench and concluded that the cause was in the locked public works office. He called the police, who broke open the door and made the discovery. Attempted Suicide of a Gumdigger. At Houhora North. Now in a Critical Condition. AUCKLAND, to-day. A gumdigger aged 32, named Richard Steinsen, has been arrested on a charge of attempted suicide. He was brought into Auckland last evening by the s.s. Apanui from Houhora North in the custody of a police officer, and Steinson, whose injury consjsts of a gash across his throat, wasjqken'to the hospital. Upon enquiry being made early this morning it was ascertained that his condition was very serious.
