The New Constituencies.

Increased Population. Each of the Auckland provincial members in the next Parliament will, under the new division, represent a considerably larger population than nominally he represents to-day. The difference runs from about 1000 to 2000 souls, notwithstanding the fact that one new electorate has been created within the province, and that the greater portion of a second will also lie within its boundaries. The city electorates all show largely increased numbers. In the city of Auckland the quota has gone up from under 12,000 to over 13,000. City East has a population of 13,473 as against 11,889, City Central 13,391 against 11,860, and City West 13,473 against 11,938. Grey Lynn has the largest population of any of the suburban constituencies in the island, its total being 13,493, against 9716 at last re-distribu-tion. Waitemata is in a similar position with regard to country electorates, Mr. Alison now' representing a population of 12,534, against 10,782 last Parnell’s total has inPeased from 10,511 to 13,208, and Manukau from 10,364 to 11,102. 'ln the other constituencies, Bay of Islands, which has suffered practically no alteration of boundaries, has increased from 8372 to 10,095, Marsden from 9789 to 10,535, Kaipara from 9519 to 10,397, Eden from 9553 to 12,304, Thames (the smallest alteration) from 10,706 to 10,989, Franklin (the area of which has been largely reduced) from 9523 to 10,125, and Ohinemuri (from which Te Arolia and other boroughs have been cut out) from 9834 to 11,535. The Bay of Plenty electorate, in consequence of the formation of the new electorate of Tauranga, shows a reduction from 10,897 to 10,070, and the new district has a population of 10,209. The new Taumarunui electorate, divided between Auckland and Taranaki, has a population of 10,094, while Waikato, which has been greatly reduced as the result of portions being added to both Taumarunui and Tauranga, ]>as a population of 10,715, against 9523.
