BRIGAND ADVERTISES HIS INTENDED RAID.

Brigandage up to date in Sicily shows a proper appreciation of the press as a means of communicating information.

Failla, the famous brigand, who has succeeded the powerful Varsalone recently sent a letter to the Sicilian Journal, in which he proclaimed to the farmers of the land that if they did not pay the tribute demanded their cattle would be destroyed. Money to pay for the insertion accompanied the letter, and a few lines addressed to the editor apprised him of the fact that if he refused to print Failla’s ultimatum he woul<£ be killed.

The letter appeared in the next issue of the paper.
