Arrival of the Ventura.
Fine Weather Trip. AUCKLAND, to-day. The mail steamer Ventura arrived from San Francisco and the Islands at halfpast ten o’clock last night after a fine weather passage. The Ventura landed 18 passengers for Auckland and has 84 for Sydney. Among the passengers on the Ventura for Auckland was Mr. James Mill, managing director of the Union Steamship Company, who has been home partly on private business and partly in connection with arrangements for the extension of the Company’s fleet, which will include several fine passenger boats that would help to bring the fleet well up-to-date. One of them is a steamer somewhat larger than the Muhcuo and having a gross tonnage of rather more than 6000. She is intended for intercolonial trade, and will be fitted up with every modern improvement for the comfort of passengers.
