For Whangaroa: Miss McLeod; Mrs. Nishet; Messrs. Quinn, Lamer, Wellsted, and French. Lionel Tony Escapes. . From Snnnyside Asylum Vo Trace Found. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Lionel Terry, who was sentenced to death for murdering a Chinaman at Wellington in October, 1905, and deemed insane, escaped from Sunnyside Asylum, near Christchurch, between seven and eight o’clock last night. He had been working about the asylum grounds as . usual all day. When the inmates assembled for tea and were about to be locked up in their cells it was discovered ■ that Terry was missing. At tho time of ■ the escape the windows were all fastened ■ and the doors locked. It is supposed that ■ Terry either had the key to the door or ■ that his escape had been arranged by I friends. A body, supposed to he that of Wm. Hugh, of Grey-street, who has been missing since September 6th, was found at Clare’s Beach, Ponsonby, on Sunday. The matter has been reported to the police. The body is in a decomposed condition and the face is unrecognisable, but papers found in the pockets bore the name of Wm. Haigh. An inquest is Billowing. Earthquake Shocks Experienced. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A slight shock of earthquake was experienced on Saturday morning. The diock was also felt at Cheviot, Hamner, Bangiora, and at Kaiapoi, where a hoarding house was severely shaken and the ryockery broken. f) Serious Accident. Man Falls from Window. THAMES, Saturday. i; A serious accident occurred to Alexander Stewart, an employee at the Golden Belt nunc at Neevesville. | Stewart arrived at Thames by the train •ad retired to bed in the afternoon at -Mrs. Vaughan’s boarding house. Later he was seen to fall from the window to the pavement. On arrival at the hospital £s• was found to he conscious but could &no account of how the accident ned. His injuries consist of a i jaw and nose, badly cut forehead, had broken wrist. The Gas Explosion at Nelson. A Victim Succumbs. NELSON, To-day.
