Cable Station v. Mangatete. On Saturday afternoon last, .at Cooper’s Beach, Mangatete footballers, under the captaincy of Mr. Alf. Long, played a match against Cable Station. The ground was in fair order, although a trifle muddy, and the game throughout was very interesting. Mangatete were first to score, Busby being responsible. The game ended :—Cable Station 12, Mangatete 9. For the former tries were scored by Noble (2), Hands, and Keys. We were unable to ascertain who scored the other two tries for Mangatete, and in any case it is not necessary to individualise, as the members of each team played splendidly, although the place kicking was very poor.. Mr. A. Smith officiated as referee, and Messrs. T. Wallen and R. T. Wrathall as line umpires. Despite the threatening aspect of the weather a good many spectators were present, (and the collection in aid of the hospital totalled 13/8. In this respect special thanks are due to the Mangonui band for gratuitous services, and Mr. “ Dick ” McKay, who conveyed passengers per his oil launch. Cable entertained the visitors at dinner at Mrs. Berghan’s hotel in the evening, when everything passed off pleasantly.
