An English officer in India had a fine large elephant which used to take charge of his two children. One day, the gentleman went out to see what had become of the elephant and his little charges. He found the two children sitting on the bank of a river, each with a fishing-rod in his hand, silently watching the cork floats as they went up and down in the water. The elephant was fishing also He was standing beside them with a fishing-rod in his trunk. Very soon he had a bite The old fellow did not stir. His eyes eagerly watched the float. By-and-by he drew up the line, amd at the end of it was a fine large fish. The elephant was greatly pleased with his catch, and uttered a loud cry of joy. He then waited patiently till one of the boys took his prize off the hook and put on more bait for him.
