Victoria Valley.
(From a Correspondent). Mr. Turbott and party have commenced building the Valley bridge, and it will be a great convenience to the settlers and especially the school children, for in the winter months the river is often not fit for children to cross, consequently the attendance is small. I notice the Natives have obtained a good price for oats this year, as well as some of the settlers. The only trouble is the sparrow, and I hope the County Council will take steps to procure poisoned grain to be distributed among the ratepayers. This last year the young grass is very thin on account of the birds. It is not only a waste of money for seed, but when a bush burn does not have a good growth of grass the first year weeds soon appear. Most of the settlers have good sized areas of bush down this season. Mr. J. D. Edwards has over 140 acres felled, and by the end of the chopping season there will be over 300 acres felled in the Valley. September 3rd, 1906.
