Kaeo.
(From our own Carrespomlnut.) Dr. R. Harrison Gil]tin, accompanied by bis wife, arrived last steamer. A number of the Medical Club interviewed him at the Kaeo Hotel, and I understand that the doctor is quite satisfied as regards the prospects of the place, and if the committee will give him t!ionecessaiy guarantee, viz., £2OO, he is prepared to come at once and start practice. It is to be hoped that the residents of the Whangaroa County will rise to the occasion, as Dr. Gilpin is a gentleman with thejiighest qualifications.
Mr. J. B. Murray has on the recommendation of the? Kaeo (School Committee, been appointed to succeed Mr. Gening as head teacher of the To Moari School. The residents of Kaeo are to be congratulated on-getting a teacher of Mr. Murray’s experience and ability.
A case that has caused considerable interest here, was heard at the Whangaroa Court on Wednesday, the 11th instant, when Mr. J. Hare, J.P., brought a charge against Mr. J. Turbott of using language likely to cause a breach of the peace. Mr. Hare was undefended by counsel. Mr. Quartley, appearing for Mr. Turbott, made a splendid defence, and the S.M. very rightly dismissed the case, each party paying their own costs. It is to be hoped that both the plaintiff and the* defendant will profit by the fatherly advice given by our worthy S.M.
Dr. Eoeles arrived last Saturday by the mail coach to see Mrs. Ed. Irving, who has been ill, and her condition was so bad that Dr. Eecles was sent for. I am pleased to say that she is on the improve.
