Settler Commits Suicide.

While Temporarily Insane. MASTERTON, Sunday. An old settler of Opaki, named George Welch, committed suicide in a determined manner on his farm a few miles from Masterton on Saturday morning. He made a stack of wood, which he set fire to. He then lay down on the wood and shot himself. When found by his son his body was charred. Deceased was in a despondent condition. He was a well-known cricketer, footballer and quoit player. The verdict at the inquest was “ Suicide while temporarily insane.”
