A Barquentine Wrecked at i Whangape. WHANGAPE, Monday. ] When being towed to sea on Saturday! at mid-day the barquentine Pelotas! grounded and was held fast on the! North Spit, inside the bar. The sea was! comparatively calm at the time of the! accident. The 8.8. Ohinemuri en-j deavoured to tow her off but without! success, as she was making water fast.l The captain and crew did not leave thel vessel until dark. During the afternoon I boats took the crew’s effects, etc., aboard! the Ohinemuri, which returned to the! wharf early Sunday morning. Captain! Harrison again went in the s.s. Kaiparaj and saved more moveable gear and! goods, etc. On Sunday afternoon a[ number of Whangape residents went! down in the Ohinemuri and Kaipara toj the scene of the wreck. During the night! the Ohinemuri towed the Pelotas to the! opposite side of the harbour, when she! was bumping on rocks and full of water.] The Pelotas has been towed within two! chains of the wharf this morning, and! everything is saved.
