Licensing Committee.

A meeting of the Bay of Islands Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse, Kawakawa, on Friday, Bth June. There were present :—R. Stone Florance, Esq., S.M. (President), Messrs. Saies, Willis, Hall, Dickeson and Harris. The following applications to remove licenses to other premises were granted :M. J. Berghan, from Settlers’ Hotel to Reinhardt’s old Mangonui Hotel; Chas. Reinhardt, from old Mangonui Hotel to new hotel on property known as Wyles’; Chas. Molloy, from old'Redan Hotel, Kaitaia, to new premises on Matthews’ property, Kaitaia. All the other hotels in the district were granted renewals, the reports on the various houses in all cases being good. The following were among the ■renewals granted :—J I Mrs. Payne, Ohaeawai Hotel. I Neil McLeod, Awanui Hotel. 8 C. Lindsay, Star Hotel, Kawakawa. I G. Marshall, Junction Hotel, KawaLcawa. 8 D. Forsyth, Duke of Marlborough ■Hotel, Russell. I C. Gothard, Masonic Hotel, Whanigaroa. I J. Jacentho, Settlers’ Hotel, Kaeo. I Evans, Houhora Hotel. 1 E. F'erguson, Towai Hotel. J. J. Bryers, Masonic Hotel, I Rawene. I M. E. Keatley, Hukerenui Hotel. I H. Fortune, Horeke Hotel. I John Nicholson, Kohukohu Hotel. I A license was issued to M. Neale, Ifaheke Hotel, and a transfer granted Ifor the Travellers’ Rest Hotel, WaiIpapakauri, from George Evans to [Joseph Evans. ■ The license fee for Jacentho’s [Hotel, Kaeo, was reduced by | A resolution was passed by the [Bench, recommending that the “ Gazette ” notice of 12th May last, prohibiting the sale of liquor in battles co Maoris, within the Bay of Islands district, be cancelled, as they were of opinion that the enforcement of the Section would result in more harm than good. The resolution was carried by 5 votes to 1, the Magistrate being the only dissentient.
