Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hayes, of Kaeo, were passengers to Auckland last steamer. Mr. Arthur Nisbet, who has been laid up with an abscess on the face, is, I am glad to say, getting about again. Mrs. D. Ilayes, of Waimate, is at present in Kaeo, calling on her numerous friends and relations. Being an old and respected resident of the place, it is needless to say she got a hearty welcome.

The Rev. Flynn Anderson gave his entertainment here on Tuesday, the 29th May, in the Kaeo Hall, but owing to Ihe inclemency of the weather there was only a moderate attendance. However, those who ventured out were well repaid for their trouble, the lecture being most interesting and humorous, and the views very clear.
The anniversary of the Methodist Church was held on Saturday, the 26th May. The church was prettily decorated with nikau, ferns, and flowers, and altogether the effect was a very pleasing and Striking one and was admiringly commented upon by the large congregation present. The building was crowded to overflowing, many having to stand in the porch. After the “tea” had been dispensed with, a concert was held. The anthem by the choir, under the leadership of the Rev. Mr. Scott, was of special excellence, being rendered with much spirit and taste. The solo was veiy effectively sung by Miss Stephenson. Mr. Brown then sang in his usual brilliant manner “He wipes the tear from every eye.” Mr. and Mrs. Brighouse were heai-d to advantage in that favourite duet
“Pulaski’s Banner.” A recitation by Mrs. Mcßae was undoubtedly the gem of the evening, her elocution being especially good. Mr. Letts’ reading was well received. Miss Hare very feelingly rendered “ Won’t you be an angel, daddy.” Rev. Mr. Scott’s recitation was loudly applauded. The singing of “ God save the King” and a vote of thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who so generously helped to make the function a success, brought to a close one of the Tnogt successful anniversaries ever held in Kaeo.
On Wednesday we had a very large flood, and some willow trees that had been cut and put in the river were swept down by the flood and got foul of the piles of the ferro-concrete bridge across the Kaeo River, thus blocking the way for the logs to pass through, of which there were a considerable number. As a consequence the logs were all piled up against the bridge, and all efforts to clear away the debris were in vain, the flood running too swiftly. This incident is conclusive proof that the bridge lias been well and faithfully built, and reflects great credit on Mr. James, the builder. Being the first ferro-concrete bridge in the north we were naturally anxious to see how it would stand, and I feel sure everyone is satisfied, seeing that the bridge was not damaged, that it is the best bridge in the North. Mr. and Mrs. Davis, of Pak&raka, are at present on a visit to Kaeo. Mr. Davis is a son of Mr. Moss Davis, of Auckland, proprietor of the Captain Cook brewery.
