Ohaeawai.

forming a branch union in the Bay of Islands. There is great activity in the coach building trade, our local coach builder having a large number of orders on hand, amongst them a new buggy and coach for Mr. Tom Knox, and a buggy for Mr. Gh Pennev, of opposition fame, besides several others, Tom Knox, the well-known coach proprietor, took a picnic party down to Paihia on Sunday last, in two of liis brakes, leaving Ohaewae at 9 p.m. and arriving at Pahia in time for church. Being such a fine day the drive was enjoyed by all present. After church the billy was boiled and preparations made for lunch, and you would bo surprised at the variety of good things as each hamper was unpacked—-every variety of cake one could mention, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves immensely, which speaks volumes for the young ladies’ cooking, and I would not be surprised if it is the means of bringing about one or two happy marriages. After lunch, boats were hired and the party pulled across to the islands and enjoyed themselves rambling amongst the rocks, and looking round for quiet nooks which were not difficult to find. At 4 p.m. all returned to the mainland. On landing a bit of fun was caused by the boat getting aground on a sand bank, but our gallant bachelors came to the rescue and carried the young ladies ashore. After a good tea, and photos being taken, we all got aboard the brakes for home, arriving home at 8 p.m , all having had a real good time. Mr. Fred. Woods, son of Mr. C. E. Woods, Native school master of Ngawha, is to be married to Mis 3 Florence Page, of New Plymouth, on the 24th inst. His brother, Mr. H. E. Woods, leaves for New Plymouth to-day to act as best man. I am sure all our subscribers will join me in wishing the happy couple the best of luck and happiness. There is some talk of a band picnic to be held at Paihia shortly.
