The Seddonian Candidate.
I’m a genuine Party candidate, A kind of postage stamp, And there’s heaps like me, I’m glad to state, In the grand old Liberal oamp. I’m loyal, firm and straight— A democratic And autocratic Seddonian candidate. A dumb political slot machine, I bear the Government brand. I’ll vote that red is a kind of green, As the Premier may command ; That might is right; that black is white— And I vote in each debate, A pleased and pleasantly Acquiescent Seddonian candidate. Should storms arise, and the Premier toss On a dangerous stormy sea, My heart is calm, for my dear old Boss Can thoroughly trust to me. I speak no word till my vote is heard As steady and firm as Fate, Aud the Boss is saved By the well-behaved Seddonian candidate. No pride have I, and my mind is nil, And my heart is free from care ; I tune my heart to my leader’s will, And follow him everywhere. And I earn my screw, for I’m always true To the saviour of tho State— The silent, skilled And thoroughly drilled Seddonian candidate. “ Pahiatua Herald.”
