Awanui.
(From oqr own Correspondent.) On Wednesday’s tide the N. 8.8. Co.’s Chelmsford and Mr. Subritzky’s auxiliary schooner Greyhound came in fvithdarge assorted cargoes for tjuV port? The Chelmsford cleared fdr Atiokkrtd and wayside ports on Thursday, and the Greyhound sailed on Friday. The arrival of these two vessels and the overland mail the same day showed the high degree in which postal authorities and shipowners consult the advantage of the public in frequent delivery of mails. As it was, mpst of our settlers received the “Weekly-News, printed on the Bth instant, on the 14t.h A number of oitr neighbours went out to the ladies' ball at Ahipara, and report enjoying themselves very much. Local football, inspired by international events, is jooking up. On the 17th Awanui, captained by Mr. Archie Bubritzky, played Waimanone on Mr. L. A. Subritzky’s ground. An excellent and well-contested match resulted. The ground was very wet, though a fine cool breeze and bright sun prevailed. The first spell passed without scoring, but in tho second half the Awanui team, in whose ranks Messrs. Puokey and Busby showed up well, succeeded in scoring two tries to nil. The visiting team was entertained afterwards at the Awanui Hotel. I should not omit to mention that the match gained much from a spectator’s point of view, from the excellent refereeing of Mr. George, of Houhora. The Single men play Married next Saturday, and Awanui visits Houhora Saturday fortnight. The quarterly meeting of the Court Pride of Awanui, A.0.F., takes place on Saturday, 24th instant, and should be well attended, as medical matters are at a critical stage, and there is no mud now in Awanui. 17th September, 1904.
