Election Notices, . r f ro THE ELECTORS OF THE PROi JL VINCE ' OF NELSON. I Oknti/kmen, — I again offer rnj self ns a Candidate p for the ottiee of Superintendent of the province. ) In the event of my re-election 1 shall at once 1 summon tho Provincial Council, and I shrill recon- , stiuct the Executive Council from gentlemen repre- . eentmg as far as possible the various interests of the I province,, and possessing tho confidence of a ■ majority of the new Provincial Council. I Butl sh.ill not appoint to the Executive Council ) any gentleman who ia not prepared heartily to assist I me in procuring tho extension of the Railway from ) Fox-hill to tho Grpy, aud if possible to Westport, i and in obtaining a loan for tho execution of Public f Works. I The chief object with which I propose to seek the ) early-co-operation of the Provincial Council, is to ; take advantage of the possibility which 1 believe, i notwithstanding the failure of my attempt last sea- ) aion, now presents itself for the first time since 1 1 have been your Superintendent, of obtaining a loan i of money for the execution of such Provincial Public Works as aro most urgently required to promote the settlement and prosperity of the province. As regards the general administration of your afi'airs, 1 can only undertake to continue my endean voiirs to deal fairly and impartially with all parts of ■j the province, and with all classes and conditions of q its people. {• Immediately after the nomination I shall hold r meetings in as many districts as timo will allow, in c order to explain my views and intentions in the „ fullest manner, and to afford to tho electors an j, opportunity to obtain from me such further iuform- „ ation and explanation us they may require. b I have the honour to be, „ Gentlemen, , Your most obedient servant, j- 1026 Oswald Cuiitis. ' 'pO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY „ JL OF NELSON. t y Gentlemen,—l beg to offer myself a Candidate as :l one of your representatives in the next Provincial d Council. o lam no Btrunger to you, having lived in Nelson thirty-three years, during which time 1' have served the public on the Board of Works, having been returned by large majorities at three elections. 'I have also held a Beat, for several years, on the City Local Committee of Education. Should you do me the honour to elect me as one of your representatives, I shall give my warm sup8 port to the extension of tho Railway from Fox-hill v to the West Coast. t I shall also give my earnest attention io tho inp crease of the Harbour Accommodation, and other necessary Public Works, as well as to such measures lt as are calculated to bpeedily develope tho great mineral resources of the province, upon which tho v future of Nelson so largely depends. 0 I am, Gentlemen, y Yours faithfully, y 1038 J. R. Hoopeh. c TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY a JL OF NELSON. g Gentlemen, — Acceding to the request of several v influential electors, lam a Candidate to be one of c your representatives in the next Nelson Provincial d Council. 8 I consider it will be tho imperativo duty of tho v Provincial Government and Council to eystematic- '■' ally initiate and carry out such a Policy of Public '' Work&as will have the effect of fully opening up the interior of the Province, and developing its vast mineral resources. If elected, I would Btrongly support such a policy, becuuse the successlul development of our minerals must produco commercial prosperity in the Province, and ultimately make Nelson, what it ought to be, a largo manufacturing district. r lam in favour of the Port of Nelson being placed c under the control of a "Harbour Board," to be con8 t>tiluted for the purpose; and, notwithstanding the ' Report of the Select Committee of tho late Coun- ' oil, I should, it elected, move in tho matter in tho J Council. As to the Nelson and West Coaet Railway, my r views are well known to you. I! Should you elect me, I will serve you faithfully and to tho utmost of my ability, as your represeuy tative. P Your obedient servant, ', Albert Pitt. 1 Nelson, October 22, 1873. 994 1 ' S O THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY „ 'JL OF NELSON. s i Gentlemen,— l beg to solicit your Votea as a i, Candidate for representing the City of Nelson in the s next Provincial Council. y lam tho nioro emboldened to claim your supcl port because 1 havo willingly undertaken tho numet rous honorary offices you have requested me to fill y during the past twenty years, imd, as I hopo, if generally to )our satisfaction. As I hold opinions somewhat opposed to the 0 traditional ideas of our Provincial GovernmentXl n seek a seat iv the Council to enforce, if possible, on 1. our future Superintendent and Executive, the necesif sily of thoir initiating Public Works and opening up if the country, and not limiting tho functions of ', Government, as hitherto, to mere administration. f,- The pu6t lour years have been co trying and de1 pressing to the bulk of -the inhabitants of the province, that a considerable number of our population have emigrated to other places. The cause of this depression aud exodus I attribute in a great measure to the Btipinene9s of the governing body in not providing work for our tlion surplus labour, and thus & retaining our labourers until they uettled down to n some Remunerative employment. For this mistaken policy we shall now be compelled to pay a heavy price in introducing people to supply the labour that will soon be required iv developing our coal, iron, and other treasures. Should I be fortunate enough to gain the seat I covet, I shall endeavour to malio the province moreprosperous than it lias lately been by carefully studying tho best means of legislative action to utilise our resources. I remain, yours obediently, 1017 WiuiiAM Rout. 'jj-O the ELECTORS of the CITY of X NELSON. 'jT° the ELECTORS of the DISTRICT •A- of GOLDEN BAY. Gentlemen— By, the resignation of A. S.
