The Markets. WESTPORT.— August 14.
Since our last report there has been little animation in business. The trade doing being confined to the daily supply of tho surrounding diggings. Tho arrival of the Nightingale, from Melbourne, with a large general cargo has equalized prices in several leading lines which were getting abort. Adelaide flour ia firm at hist quotations, and as the supply to hand is not large, we do not anticipate any alteration. Oats are scarce, and retailing at from ss. to ss. 6d. ported, fetched 4s. at auction. Potatoes : The market is over-stocked and prices are nominal. The supply of kerosine to hand per Nightingale has eased the price of this article, and may now be quoted at from 3s. 6d. to 3s. 9d. In wines and spirits we have little alteration to note. Colonial wine is now more in demand than port and sherry. We quote the former firm at 30s. to 355. per dozen. Sugars have declined about 403. per ton all round, and recent advices from Melbourne report a still further decline.
