Correspondence. WEATHER AT PAKAWAU, GOLDEN BAY.

To the Editoe of the ' Nelson Examinee.' Sib —l forward you for publication a statement of the fine and wet days for the past half-year, whidi you will observe has been much finer than the corresponding half of 1868, yet is considerably below the average. I also send a statement of the rainfall during the same time, from a comparison with the fall in Nelson; from which you will observe that we had not only more rain, but also more wet days. During the six months there have been twenty-eight distinct shocks of earthquake felt at Pakawau, some of them being very sharp ones. From the 7th to the 13th March, there were no lesa than thirteen. One at 8"30 p.m. on the 9th, lasted for upwards of a minute, having the feeling of three distinct shakes in that time, and several articles hanging up vibrated for upwards of three minutes. I have not observed that they have been felt in Nelson. They generally seem to come from the W.S.W., and in close, muggy kind of weather. Although there have been some exceptions.

Fine and slight showers as above, 114; corresponding half of 1868, 100 ; average of ditto for nine preceding years, 129. Showery, wet, and very wet days for the first sis months of 1869, 67; corresponding months of 1868, 82; average of ditto for nine preceding years, 52. Amount of Rain in Inches and Numbeb of Days on "which it Falls at

In May, the rainfall at Nelson was in excess of the fall at Pakawau, whilst on the loth of that month there was a fall of 5"20 inches, when here we had only 275 incites ; and again on the 28th, there was 1 - GO inches registered at Nelson, whereas we had no rain for a week before or after that day. I am, &c, J. E. FXETCHEE. Pakawau, July 14, 1869.

Note.— The "slight showers" are on days on which rnin fell but very slightly, aud only for a fen moments ; " bhowery," not a continuous rain, and so as men can work; "wet," rains heavy for moat part of the day. "Very wet," are those on which the rain comes down continuously, in fact " soakers."
