MELBOURNE.—JuIy 10.
Business in the import markets shows no sign of improvement. Breadstuff's are necessarily affected
by tho arrivals from California, as the buyers do not caro to operate but with extreme caution, and trade is quite at a standstill in consequence. The smallness of the stocks held, however, effectually checks any material reduction in price. In the meantime, holders refuse to quote under £13 10s. to £14. Best samples of Victorian and Port Macdonnell wheat can be purchased at 6s. 2d. to 6s. 3d., and for fine Tll3manian ss. 9d. is asked. Oats meet with a i f eady sale at 4s. 2d. to 4s. 3d. for good feeding qualities. A party of discoloured Tasmanian was quitted at 4s. Stocks of maize have been pretty well cleared out again. ' Supplies coming iorward, however, are ample, and will prevent prices from going higher, which are, however, well sustained by the demand experienced for the present.
