GREAT FIRE IN WELLINGTON.

EIGHT HOUSES BURNT on PARTLY DESTROYED. LOSS OF PROPERTY £12,000. [By Electiuc Telegraph.] Wellington, May 18. At twenty minutes past one on Sunday morning, an upper room in the South Sea Hotel, Lambton Quay, was discovered to be on fire. Pour engines wero booh on the ground, and an immense number of people lent assistance, but the lire could not be got under for two hours. Buildings totally destroyed: The South Sea Hotel; Kiltie's, draper; James', furniture warehouse; Carmont and Haig'a butchers. Buildiuga partly destroyed : Brown's, grocer ; Cohen's, tobacconist ; Armstrong's saddler ; Webb's, furniture dealer. The Insurance offices sufl'er to the following extent : — Liverpool and London, £5,000 ; Itoyal, £l,U00; Northern, £1,250; New Zealand, £1,000 ; North British, £350. Total insurance, £9,200.
