FORFEITURE OF NATIVE LANDS.

A Government Gazelle has been issued, in which the following lands at Waikato and Taranaki have been proclaimed forfeited, under the " New Zealand Settlements Act " :—: —

West Pukekohe Block.

All that land known as the West Pukekohe block, supposed to contain 1,133 acres : bounded on the North by lot No. 38, parish of Pukekohe, 7,100 links ; on the East by the Pukekohe native reserve, 30,084 links ; on the South by lot 44, parish of Pukekohe, 2,160 links ; and, on the West, by lot No. 78, parish of Pune, 2,640 links, and 4,660 links, and by a road 28,030 links to commencing point.

East Waiboa Biock,

All that land known as East Wairoa Block: bounded on the North by the Wairoa river and the Northern boundary of the lands intended to be confiscated, as set forth in the proclamation of 17th December, 1864 ; on the East by the Eastern boundary of such confiscated lands ; on the South by the Maungatawhiri river, from the Surry Redoubt to the Eastern boundary of the Pokeno Block, as described in proclamation of 29th December, 1864 j and on the West, by the said Pokeno Blook. Middle Taeanaki.

All that block of land at Taranaki, bounded on the North and West by the sea 3 on the East by the Waitara river, from its mouth to the junction of the Manganui river, and by the Manganui from the Waitara to the crossing place of the Kairoa and Waimate road j theuce on the South by the said road to its junction with the Manganui and Taarnaki coast road ; and thence by a straight line from the said junction of roads to the sea at its nearest point. Excepting all lands within the said boundaries held under Grant from the Crown.

Waitaba South.

All that block of land at Taranaki, bounded on the North by the sea ; on the East by the Waitara river, from itp mouth to the junction of the Manganui river; on the south by a straight line from the junction of the Manganui and Waitara rivers to Tururutouga, on the Waiongona river ; and on the West by a straight line to the sea at Waitaha. Excepting lands within the above described boundaries held under Grant from the Crown.

Oakuba.

Bounded on the North by the sea ; on the East by the Omata block, from the sea to where the boundary of the Omata block is cut by the Native path running between the Patua and Pouakai Ranges ; thence by a straight line running between the two above mentioned ranges till it cuts the Hangatahua river; thence by the Hangatahua to the sea. Except the block of land known by the name of the Tataraimakß block.

Pehi's! Subbendeb. — The Wanganui Chronicle says : — "The reason of Pehi's surrender is said to be the consequence of an ineffectual application on the part of the tribes now engaged to obtain assistance from Waikato. The WaDurto tribes lay they axe Urcil of war."
