RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

[Before J. Poynter, Esq., Eesident Magistrate.] Tuesday, September 20.

Michael Fee, Thomas Morgan, William Brown, Edward Call, James Johnston, aud James M'Gqffie, were charged by John Heffer, master of the paddle steamer Nelson, with having travelled from the Grey to Nelson, on board the said steamer, without having previously paid their fares, and with the intent to avoid payment thereof, contrary to the provisions of the " Steam Navigation Act, 1863."

Prisoners admitted the offence, and were fined £5 each, in addition to the usual fare of £3, and, in default of payment, were sentenced to be imprisoned, with hard labour, for one calendar month.
