I sent my very uninteresting letter of the Bth via Wanganui and Wellington, having, on more than one occasion, lost the opportunity of writing to you by the mail steamer, which is frequently thrown out of her time by the war aud weather. Nothing new has occurred. One of our bush parties, the day before yesterday, in a heavy rain, and by coming up in their rear, very nearly fell upon a party of Mataitawa natives they were in search of. The natives were engaged killing sheep on the Bell Block (the dead sheep being quite warm), and fled with the utmost precipitation. They were tracked for nearly two miles, but made no stand, and the party returned homewards much disappointed, as the imposter, Tamati Teito, was among the nativef/
