Cardinal Morlot, Archbishop of Paris, is dead. The French Chambers open on January 12th.

The policy of the Government with regard to Italy and Rome is to be vehemently atttacked by the Liberals. Prince Napoleon is expected to lead the charge. The French budget shows a deficit for the present year of thirty-five million francs.

The cost, for 1862, of the Mexican expedition, is estimated at £3,500,000 sterling. For 1863, M. Fould estimates a surplus of one hundred and ten millions.

The French journals represent the Mexicans as being most favourable to French intervention in Mexico.
