CRICKET.

"We have had several cricket matches during the past month. One was played on the 13th March, between the Spring Grove and Banzau clubs, which terminated in favour of Eanzau, with four wickets to go down. A match was also played on the 13th March, on the Motueka ground, between eleven boys of Motueka, under eighteen years of age, and eleven of Riwaka, of the same age. This match was won by the youths of Motueka in one innings, with four runs to spare. A match was played on the 26th instant, at Hope, between the Spring Grove and Hope clubs, in which the latter were defeated by four runs and six wickets to go down. Two matches have also been played between the "Wakatu (Nelson) and Wakefield clubs. In the first match between these clubs, mentioned in our last Summary, the Wakefield cricketers were victorious, having defeated their opponents by several runs. The return match was, therefore, played on Thursday, March 20, in Victory-square, and was won by the Nelson players. The follgwing was the score: — 1

As each club had thus, in the present season, won a game, it was determined that a third should be played at Wakefield, on Thursday, the 3rd April, bat that day being wet, the match took place on the following day and resulted in by no means a satisfactory termination. We, however, with the score, append two accounts of the game, one written with a Nelson the other with a Wakefield view: — _[*BOM A CORBESPONDENT.] The TFakaCu cricketera met the TFtfiefieid JEiereiJ) for the third time this season, on Friday, April 4, but tlio game was not brought to a satisfactory conclusion,

inasmuch as it was not played out, therefore it remains yet to be seen which are the best men, for although Wakrfield run up a good score, Wakatu did not at all despair of being able to get the runs, even with three of their best men out, as they had four or five good bats left, and 63 out of 121 (the Wakefield score) were got by two batsmen not very much superior to some of their opponents who were not out. The Wakatu men were, however, unable to remain at Wakefield another day to finish the match, and they therefore gave ifc to their opponents, although some dispute arose as to whether it ought not to be considered a drawn game, the Wakefield umpire having, at the commencement, declined to agree that it should be settled by the first innings, if not played out. The bowling ou both sides was not so good as on former occasions, but the fielding was rather better. Of the batting I cannot say much, for (as will be seen by the score), with the exception of Messrs. Tunniclitfe and Joseph Baigent, very small scores were made. I now give you the score as it stood when the stumps were drawn, which shows that Wakatu had to get 74 runs to win, and seven wickets to go down: —
