We have received copies of the General Government Gazette to the 7th January, from which we make the following extracts : —
Cikcuit CotriiT, Tahanaki.— Tlis Excellency the Governor lias appointed thut a Circuit Court, for the despatch of Criminal and Civil business, shall be held at Tttrauuki on the 13th of January, 1862.
PfiOTEcrroN of Birds.— The " Indian Goose" and the" Diver" have been placed under the protection of the Act for the Protection of certain Animals, &c. PKOYISCUL Audit,— William Thompson, Esq., of
Chrwtchureh, Canterbury, Charles Heivy Kettle, Esq , ot Otnurn, and Edward Larwill Humphries, E*q., ol I'nrannki, have been nppomtel auditors of the publi>accounts under the provisions of the Provincial Audit Act, 1861.
Polling- Places.— The polling-pl»ce hitherto jn use at Mr. Taylor's hou«p, Tiikiika, bus been abolished, uid the School-hou«c, Taknkii, bus been appointed in lieu thereof: the Police Station, Slate river, bus also been appointed us n polling-pliice for the election of members of the House of Representatives.
Execution of Ckiminals Act.— His Excellency 'he Governor lias, in pursuance of this power con'"erred on him by the Execution of Criminals Art. 1838, appointed Wellington to be a district within tvliich tlio shM Act shall come nt once into operation ; \nd the public Gaol in the City of Wellington iinmed ua the place for the execution of criminals.
Supreme Court. — The Court eat in Banco yesterl.iy, at the Provincial Hull. This morning, at te> •'clock, it will sit for the despatch of our very heuv* •riminal calendar. We would remind jurors, prose■utor.*, and witnesses, that the Court will open punctually at ten o'clock.
The Supekintendency.— The Returning Officer, ■n Monday la«t, at Ihe Provincial Hall, declared tin iii.il state of the poll for the recent election of tli Superintendent. The numbers were, for Robinson i**s ; for Ba»nieoat, 212 ; majority, 443. J, P. Thr Volunteers. —By advices received fron Vucklnnd, the Adjutant of Militia lias been informei liat henceforth Hiinnunitioii will be served out to tb Volunteers Jit 7a. per I<'O rounds, inclusive of 12 •aps. The charge heretofore had been Is. 61. pe lozen cartridges, iind Is. per hundred caps. Twi vroujjht iron targets were al<o forwarded from Auckand for the Volunteers' practice.
