The Prince Alfred arrived on the night of Friday, the 11th January, from Wellington, with the southern mails, having left at six o'clock on the previous morning, after being weather-bound in Wellington harbour by a S.E. gale since the preceding Tuesday. The weather in the Straits had been for several days of the worst possible character, and the Prince Alfred encountered some very heavy seas during her passage, which she shortened, however, by coming through the French Pass.

The steamship Airedale, Avhich left Sydney on the evening of the 17th January, with the English mail, arrived here on Thursday morning, January 2A, thus making the run in little over six days, though she encountered a succession of head winds on her passage.

The brigantine Marchioness, which sailed hence for Sydney, was reported by the Airedale to have made a very quick passage, having arrived in Sydney after a run of ten days.

The barque Bride is proceeding rapidly with her loading at Port Underwood. She now has upwards of 1,000 bales of wool on board, with plenty more at hand to complete l\ev loading, bo as to admit of hey leaving Nelson on or near her advertised time of departure for England.
