Nothing new under the sun, it has been said; I but one tiling is certainly new: the DISCOVERY ' whereby BLUE EYES and AUBURN TINTED f HAIR can be PHOTOGRAPHED, without the < misty undefined eyes, or the black hair and beards of former photographs. In examining photographs by even first-rate European artists, too often the eyes (where blue) are scarcely perceptible, whilst in most ' cases the beards, if at all red, are photographed black, ' giving the fair-haired sons of Britain more the ap5 pearance of Spanish or Italian bandits, or organ grinders, than generous, open hearted Celts, or truth- ' loving Saxons. ' Only fancy some lovely Scottish maiden, with Auburn Ringlets, sending her photograph to her J Highland laddie. Would he not, on opening the casket, and seeing the gold-tinted tresses changed to j ebon black, exclaim, in astonishment— " It is na my wee thing, It is na my am thing, It is na my am kind dearie " ? , But this difficulty is surmounted. The goi'dian knot of Photography is severed 5 and let those who doubt come and see, by specimens in their Gallery, that Messrs. Oxley & Lane can Photograph Blue Eyes, with a distinctness never before attained by any one, ! and produce ' f " The flowing beard of Martial hue," in tones harmonizing with nature. This great discovery in overcoming the actinic powers of the blue and red colours is the result of experiments extending over nearly six years, and at last perfected in Nelson, which now can claim the honour of this discovery, that, by a curious coincidence, took place about the time that her horses proved victorious in Australia. Due notice will be given of the arrival of the Photogen, for night portraiture, by the illumination of Nelson, from the Church hilL Its extraordinary suc1 cess has created a perfect furore in the scientific world. 1 at home, as testified by the nattering critiques of no 1 less than thirteen of the public journals. The return of Mr. Lane from the Wairau will now enable the firm, 1 as -well as taking portraits, to execute the numerous orders they have so long had of Vieios of Nelson, &c.
