Local Intelligence.
Narrow Escape. — A man named Nash, one of the pleasure seekers yesterday, on board of the steamer Tasmanian Maid in her cruise up the bay, in attempting to get into a boat which was towing astern, fell into the water, and was only rescued just as he was becoming exhausted.
Dreadful Accident. — A very serious accident occurred yesterday to Mr. Joseph Taylor. In loading the gun on the Beach used for firing the signals, the previous charge not having been extinguished by the sponge, the charge ignited while Taylor was ramming it home, and blew away his right arm from .a
little below the elbow. . Taylor was immediately put into a cart and taken home, and medical assistance sent for ; and we hear that amputation of the arm above the injured part has taken place. A subscription was immediately set on foot by Messrs. Snow and Akersten; and to show the charitable feeling of our townsfolk we may say, that no less than was collected in one hour and a-half. We believe the subscription list will be taken throughout the town to-day.
