Tuesday, Maech 16. The Council assembled this evening at 5 o'clock, and the Speaker having taken the chair, Dr. Monbo moved for leave to bring up a memoriul to the General Assembly on the subject of the re-ad-justment of the New Zealand Company's debt. Mr. Sharp seconded the motion, which was adopted, and the memorial was then read, ordered to lie on the table, and to be printed. BRANDING OF CATTLE. Mr. EiHOTT moved for leave to bring in a bill to provide for the branding of cattle. Mr. Sinclair seconded the motion, which was adopted, and the bill read a first time. NELSON IMPROVEMENT BILL. Dr. Renwick moved that the Council resolve itself into committee for the further consideration of the Nelson Improvement Act Amendment Bill, and that Mr. Sinclair do take the chair. The Pbovinciai. Solicitoe moved, as an amendment, that Mr. Parker do take the chair, which amendment was on division carried by 13 to 2. Mr. Parker then took the chair, when several of the clauses passed through committee, others being postponed for further consideration. At clause 29 the Chairman reported progress, and asked leave to sit again on Tuesday, the 23rd instant. LEAVE OP ABSENCE. Mr. Pabker asked for leave of absence for Mr. Jacka, for one month, on account of ill health. Leave granted. ADJOURNMENT, Mr. Shabp moved that the Council, at its rising, do adjourn until Tuesday, March 23. _ Mr. Sinoiaib seconded the motion, which on division was lost by 13 against 3. Mr. Shabp then moved that the Council, at its rising, do adjourn until Thursday, Dr. Renwick seconded the motion, which on being put, was negatived. The Council, after receiving notices of motion, then adjourned until Wednesday, the 17th March. Wednesday, Mabch 17. The Speaker took the chair this evening at five o'clock. COUNTRY ROADS ACT. Mr. Keliing brought up the report of the select Committee on the Country Roads Act, and moved that it be taken into consideration to-morrow (Thursday.) AUCTIONEERS BILL. The Pbovincial Solicitob moved the third reading of the Auctioneers Licensing Amendment Bill. Mr. Shabp seconded the motion, which was unanimously adopted, and the bill read a third time and passed. REPAIR OF ROADS. Mr. Simmonds asked the Provincial Secretary if it is the intention of the Government to put that portion of the trunk line of road lying between the Wairau River and Maddox's Bush in a state of repair before the commencement of the winter. The Pbovtncial Secbetaby said the Government had now no money in hand for such purposes, but a large sum had been voted for public works which would be raised under the Debenture Bill, and that then the honourable member would be enabled to have a voice in its expenditure. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Dr. Monbo asked leave of absence for Mr. Wemys who was unavoidably detained by business. Leave granted. The Council then adjourned until Thursday, at 5 o'clock.
