Local Intelligence.

The Weather. — Many of the inhabitants of Nelson were yesterday considerably astonished at beholding the saddle-back range of hills capped with snow. We noticed that the morning air was cold, as in winter, and certainly had not, from former seasons, been prepared to see snow settling on hills of such comparatively slight elevation at this period of the year. Surely our seasons have no revolutionary intentions, for the purpose of permitting us to eat our Christmas goose or turkey as of yore, with frost and snow around us, and the cold pitiless blast blowing its whistling dirge while we, with friends, sit around the brightlyburning log with slippered feet on fender, careless of the outer world.

Nelson Almanack. — The Nelson Sheet Almanack for the year 1858 was published to-day at this office. The time of the sun's rising and setting, the moon's age, and the high-water table have been calculated for the meridian of Nelson, and these calculations, as well as the other information relating to the calendar, have been compiled expressly for this publication. The Trade Directory has been omitted, not only for want of room, but also because the constant changes likely to take place in the course of a month or two would render a great part of such information inaccurate.
