Published for the proprietor. > .-rr, Wellington, October 29, 1856. v _ O the ELECTORS of the PROVINCE of NELSON. Gentlemen — The Principal Returning Officer having, alter the short period of twenty-six days, reoeived the official returns from the Amuri district, and, aided by the highly renowned and undoubted ability Ot IBY opponent (T>r 4 Monro)) ha-ring discovered another reason why the legitimate result of the late election should be indefinitely postponed, or altogether ect aside, I feel that I am again at liberty to return to my home, from which I have considered it my duty to be so long absent ; but, before doing bo, permit mo to tender you my most sincere thanks for the distinguished honour you havQ conferred upon me. To nave received the largest ttumber of votes that have ever been recorded in a political contest in favour of any individual in this province, not only without any of that coercion, intimidation, or legal bribery by which the electors of Nelson have been ao frequently insulted, but even without any of that system or organization which often enable an active minority to defeat the wishes of a majority, is a proof of confidence and goodwill from my brother" electors which I shall always romember with the most lively feelings of gratitude, and one which must ev.j»r render me deeply solicitous to serve you with yiat zeal and integrity which you ha-ve so great a" right to expect at my hands. I regret the public inconvenience, disorder, and financial embarrassment that will, I fear, be inflicted on this province by the course now adopted by our opponents; but for the final triumph of our principles we have nothing to fear. The inexpensive and uncorrupting system of conducting the election, which has been so honourably adhered to by my friends, can be repeated, if required, without loss or disgrace ; and the electors of Nelson will not be wanting in the spirit effectually to resist every unjust and unmanly attempt, to interfere with their political rights. I remain, gentlemen, Your obliged and faithful servanf, J. P. KoBl>'SON. Nelson; 28th November, 1856. a }
