Election Intelligence. — Massacre Bay. — The candidates for the seat given to this district by the Provincial Council Enlargement Ordinance, were Mr. J. P. Robinson and Mr. W. R. Nicholson. At the nomination, which took place at Motupijß on Monday, the 6th instant, Mr. Robinson was proposed by Mr. Nicol, and seconded by Mr/ Burt ; Mr. Nicholson was proposed by Mr. Outridge, and seconded by Mr. Stoddart. On a show of hands being called for, the election was declared to have fallen an Mr. Robinson, who was returned accordingly. Fatal Accident. — On Thursday night last, G. Askew, the master of the schooner Necromancer, was drowned in the Wairau river. Askew had gone on shore in his dingy, in the evening, and was returning to his vessel about midnight, when the accident must have happened. In the morning, the unfortunate young man was missed by his crew, who thereupon gave the alarm, and a search was made for him. After a little time tne dingy was found keel uppermost on the bar, and the body of the deceased was found outside, opposite the Maori pa.
