Gentlemen— l have the honour in acknowledging the above Requisition to tender you my lincere thanks for this flattering mark of your confidence in my public utility, and I need scarcely add that I cheerfully offer myself as a Candidate for your suffrages. 1 have ever taken a warm interest in all matters connected with tbe Board of Trust, as I consider the welfare of the Province to a very great extent to depend upon a wise, just, and liberal administration of those funds : and I may perhaps here be allowed to remark, that to some extent I have proved my devotion to the interests of the Trust by having acted as the Honorary Secretary of that Board for some years, in fact, until the legalization of that Board, and until the payment of ceriain funds over to the Board enabled them to engage a permanent Secretary. As 1 fully concur with the whole of the report of the present Trustees now laid before the public, it is unnecessary for me to detail my views on the management of the funds of that Trust. I will now only therefore state, that on the subject of a High School or College, I shall support the establishment of such an institution, based on unsectarian principles, and without any distinction of class or race, and that such principles, with a due regard to justice to all classes, will actuate my general conduct. Again thanking you for your requisition, I have the honour to remain, Gentlemen, Your obedient, faithful Servant, William Oldfikld Cautlbt. Wensley Hill, Dee. 15, 1854.

W. WELLS, ES a.— -JL Sir — We, the undersigned, beg to request that you will allow yourself to be nominated as a Candidate to fill the important office of one of the Trustees of the Nelson Trust FuuJs. Your long residence in the Province and intimate knowledge of its requirements give us confidence that you #ill perform the duties in the way which will best promote the public interests. , We are, sir Your most obedient servants, Wm. Collins J. L. Hodgson Thos. Doughty Joseph Bungate Edwin Waataey William Wastney W. M'Rae Joseph M. Pierson D. Moore John Brown Wm. Dyson • Thomas Blanchett Thomas Dodson Frederick T. Berry William Small James Mackay Henry Williams Thomas VVilkms G. H. Manssen John Wastuey H. Martin Charles Edwards Wm. Gill J*iues P. BUck Dennis Frost H. L. N. Clarke. W. C. Hodgson Nelion, December i, 1854. To Wm. CoLLins, Esq., M.P.C., and the other Gentlemen signing the Requisition. Gentlemen— l am in receipt of your Requisition to allow myself to be named as a Candidate to fill the important office of one of the Trustees of the " Nelson Trust Funds," and have to thank you for your confidence in thinking me eligible for that office. Believing that the duties of the Trustees will be very important, and that very great and good results for our Province may be derived Irom this Fund, if judiciously applied and economically administered, I at once accept ot your requisition, aud, should I be elected, will endeavour, to the best of my ability, in the administration of the Funds, to promote tbe general good of the Province. I understand the major part of the Fund now stands to the credit of the Educational Scheme ; and as this subject is a very important one, allow me to state my views upon it in a very few words, but without going into detail. I have always been of opinion that every scheme of Education tails shun of its aim and end which does not embrace the secular education of every child in the country ; and I cunsider it one of the first duties of a Government to make provision for this great and important work— a work I believe of such value, that our future social and political welfare almost entirely depends upon it. In respect to the special " Nelson Trust Fund," and the part of it reserved tor Educational purposes, I bslieve it could not be better applied than in abiding by the original intention of establishing a College or High Class Seminary, 1 and nothing would give a more elevated tone to our Province than the lact of a First Clais Educational Institution in active operation among us ; not only would this be an inestimable benefit to our own youth, but it would also operate as a great inducement to families to settle among us. The Steam Fund I consider a very important item in the Trust, and if prjperly applied will speedily develop the natural riches of our colony, by giving increased energy to the working of our timber and coal fields, »ad copper, besides opening an extended market for our other products, to the mutual benefit of tbe merchant, agriculturist, and labourer. Should the Electors wish to learn my views on any other matters connected with the Trust, I shall be most happy to meet them previous to the day of election, and will, if elected, be always happy to receive suggestions from any individual, either through the press or otherwise, in what he thinks I would tend to the general benefit, which it shall be within the province of the Trustees to entertain. I am, I Gentlemen, Faithfully yours, _ Wm. Wh.x.l. Marybank, December, 1834. Dissolution of partnership. U —NOTICE.— The PARTNERSHIP at present existing between Messrs. TIDD & BEACH, of Stoke, Brewers, will be DISSOLVED upon th* 25th day of December, 1854, by mutual consent. All debts, dues, and demands, either for or against the said firm, an requmUd to be sent in by that date. Tsoa. Tiod, Halte*, Dh. 11, IM4, BtAiaa BaA*a.
