CANTERBURY.

The following is a list of the Members returned to the Representative Assembly, as well as to the Provincial Council, for the several Towns and Districts of the Canterbury Province.

Members of the Representative Assembly, J. E. Fitzgerald, Esq., for the Town of Lyttelton, (Mr. Fitzgerald has been also elected Superintendent for the Province) ; H. Sewell, Esq., for the Town of Christchurch ; the Hon. J. Stuart Wortley, and E. J. Wakefield, Esq., for the Christchurch Country District ; and W. S. Moorhouse, Esq., for the Akaroa District.

Members of the Provincial Council of Canterbury. For the Town of Lyttelton, Messrs. Cookson, Hamilton,, and Dampier. For the Town of Christchurch, Messrs. Cass, S. Bealey, and Packer. For tbe Akaroa District, Mr. R. W. Rhodes and the Rev. W. Aylmer. The return for the Christchurch Country District has not yet reached us.

A subscription, or perhaps more properly speaking a share list, has been opened for the erection of a public building at Christ* church, for the purposes of public meetings, balls, concerts, &c, and also to serve at a Town Hall, and for the Sessions of the Provincial Council; £1,000 would bt

required for its erection, of which sum £400 had already been subscribed in shares of £1 each. A public clock, made by M'Cabe & Co., of Cornhill, and described as being a first rate chronometer, had been erected at Lyttelton, over the central window of the Post-office, facing London-street, On the subject of improvements, we would observe that the settlers of Port Cooper, though ouly established some two or three year 8, are setting a praiseworthy example to the older settlements. A new vesßel c built entirely of New Zealand timber, had been recently launched at Port Cooper. She is cutter rigged, of about 20 tons burthen, and has been named the Caledonia. The following were the prices current at the Lyttelton markets on the 3rd inst., flour prices nominal ; bread, 9d. the 21b. loaf; butter, 2s. per lb; potatoes Bs. per cwt.
