"A Scratch."— ln Cadell's "Campaigns in Egypt," it is related :— " An Irishman, Dan Fitxgibbon, of the Grenadiers, like most of his countrymen, both courage and humour. He was placed at a bank which he was to fire over, but on no account to show himself. Poor Dan, not taking this advice, jumped upon the bank every round he fired, to see if he had hit any one. At last a Frenchman shot him through the back of the' left hand. It was ■een that something had happened, and he was asked what wan the matter i Dan, very quietly looking at his bleeding fist, and scratching bis head with the other, said, ' I wish I knew who did tbii."
