TO CORRESPONDENTS.
•We have received from Mr. C. Ksarns a nort of essay- on the advantages and benefit* which the labouring classes may derive from becoming members of the Order of Odd- Fellows. Fully concurring in the principle advocated — which is nothing less than this, that it is the duty of every man to make & provision, when in the enjoyment of health and strength, for sickness and old age, and which; in the case of the labouring classes is«perhapi most easily done through the agency of the Odd Fellows, and similar benefit societies (though the first, from its extensive ramifications is, in that respect, superior toaH others)—this communication is still, we think, unsuited to the columns of a general newspaper, particularly one of our small dimension*, of which it would engage no small part. For this reason we must decline inserting it. . . We have received for insertion a series of Resolutions, passed at a meeting of the residents ia Waimea South, complaining of the letting of land in that district for Cattle Runs. These, though in type, we defer publishing until next week, because we have been requested to offer some remarks on the subject ; and as we cannot do so in our present number, we prefer withholding the publication of the Resolutions until our remarks can accompany them. We have also received a communication complaining of the conditions of the Timber Licenses, some time since advertised by the Agents of the Absentees. Before publishing this, we wish to make a few enquires on the subject. Our old friend Gilks has also favoured us with a communication, which, as it reaehed-us only this -morning, must likewise stand over.
