The sheep imported during the year exceeded the number exported only by 100 ; allowing therefore ! 1,200 to have been slaughtered by the butcher, the natural increase will be something about 50 per cent on the whole of the sheep in the settlement. The average of the crops at the time the returns were made, was supposed would be very light, n consequence of the unusually long period of d y weather we had experienced; thus wheat is giv< n at 20 bushels to the acre, barley 13, oats 20, aud and potatoes 2. The rain which fell in the middle of January, and at subsequent intervals, must have considerably affected all late crops, particularly potatoes, which now give promise of being abundant. Upwards of 700 acres of new land was brought under cultivation during the year, and the crop from this generally must hate been very light.

Manufactories, Mines, &c. jSaw Mill at Motueka, the property of the execu- ' tors of the late Captain Thorns, at present not worked. JDitto at Gleniti, the property of Mr. T. Baigent, 1 having one circular and six vertical saws. Ditto in Waimea West, having two frame saws, belonging to Messrs Rutherford and Muiphy. iDitto at Waimea West, the property of Mr. Hugh I Martin. JFlour Mill in Nelson, water power, one pair of stones, erected by shares. The quantity of j flour it turned out during the year was 205 ' tons. JDitto in Waimea South, water power, one pair of 1 stones, the propery of Mr. W. Herrick. Ditto, at Gleniti, water power, the property of Mr. Baigent. Tlax Mill and Rope Walk, in Suburban North, the property of Mr. M'Glashan. The quantity of flax produced is from thirty to forty tons. hope Walk, belonging to Mr. Gardiner. Five tons of flax worked up during the year. Malthouse and Brewery, the property of Messrs. Hooper and Co., at which 5,000 bushels of malt, and 800 hogsheads of ale, were made during the year. Ditto, the property of Mr. Smith. Eighty hogsheads of ale brewed. Brick Kiln, at which 110,000 bricks have been made during the year. In addition to this many have been made in the rural districts, on the spots where required. "lanyard and Curriery, the property of Mr. G. Lightband. Two Hand-looms for Woollen Cloths, the property of Mr. Blick, and Mr. Merser. Hand-loom, for Stockings, the property of Mr. Gibson. Two Hand-looms, for Sacking, from flax, the property of Messrs. Devaney. Coal Mine, at Massacre Bay. About eighty tons ; has been brought to Nelson during the year. Hobart Town Prices. — Wheat was quoted at Hobart Town, on the 22d of January, at from 3s. 6d. to 4s. per bushel ; . oats, 3s. 9d. to 45. : Cape barley, 4s. to 4s. 6d. ; English ditto, ss. 3d. to ss. 6d. ; hay, £2 10s. to £4 per ton ; flour, first quality, £10 per ton ; ditto, second ditto, £9 per ton. The Launceston prices were nearly the same ; there was but little doing, and no immediate prospect of an advance.
