PORT NICHOLSON.

We have Wellington papers to the 13th instant. The Independent, discontinued a few months since, is again on its legs.

Another box of sovereigns has been recovered from the wreck of the Tyne. This is the fifth* found, and there is only one now missing.

Rumours have reached Wellington unfavourable to the character of the debenture currency. This has caused a large quantity of goods to be taken out of bond, no instructions having been yet received at the Custom House to refuse them for duties.

There is a great scarcity of coasters at Wellington. Two small vessels have been bought by the natives at the south, and Rauparaha has just purchased the schooner Three Brothers of Mr. Toms, for £300. The price of flour at Wellington was from £14 to £18. Twenty-two sperm whales have been captured at Mahia, in Hawke's Bay, in one day, which produced 100 tuns of oil. Part of the oil has been brought on to Wellington, and the remainder has been taken to Auckland. The cargo of cattle imported front Twofold Bay by Mr. Dun in the David Malcolm, brought from £8 to £9 a head. We have received the following from a highly respectable gentleman at Wellington. It is dated December 1 3th :

" Sir George Gipps has been recalled' from the government of New South Wales. Sir Henry Pottinger is likely to be appointed Go-vernor-General of the Australian colonies. • All duties have been reduced in Sydney one hjtlfMr. B. has just this moment arrived, /rom Sydney with the news." . .
