COLONIAL WOOLS.

[From the Colonial Gazette, May 31.] The first public wool sales of the season co nmenced on the 13th instant and terminated t iis day. These sales had been for some time previously looked forward to with much intere si, which was manifested by the full attendance of the trade and the animated biddings, which ncreased through the great influx of the smaller manufacturers, who mustered on this occasi on more strongly than usual. The dealers and consumers being mostly out of stock, caui ed things to go off with unusual spirit; the result is an advance of about lid. per lb. on the middling and better sorts. The following are Iho average of prices : — Australian.— Fine cleaned fleeces, 2s. to i2s. Bd. ; scoured fine, 2s. to 2s. 2d ; locks and pieces,c es, Is. sd. to Is. lOd. ; lambs' wool, Is. lOd. to 2s. Bd. Van Diemen's Land.—Fine fleeces, Is. 9d, to 2s. id.; scoured fine, Is. 10* d. to 2s. 3id. ; lambs', Is. 9d. to 2s. 3id. Port Phillip. — Clean fleeces, Is. 9d. to i» t Hid.; skin wool, Is. sd. to Is. 7d. ; lambs' dhto. Is. 9d. to 2s. 6d. Cape. — Second fine, Is. lid. to 2s. Id.; skin wool, Is. 4d. to Is. 6d.j lambs' ditto, Is. 6d. to Is. lid. Since our " markets " were made up, we h ave been favoured with some additional information respecting the wool sales of the 13th to 28th May. The circular of Messrs. Simes and Do takes notice of three bales of New Zealand wool" which fetched Is. 64d. to Is. 84d. They remark, — " The steady demand which has long exit ted throughout the manufacturing districts for all descriptions of wool having caused the st Dck on hand to be light, the early arrivals from the colonies have been bought with avidity; in seme instances the excellent condition of particular parcels have commanded very high rates. Much remains to be done in the general managementm ent and getting up of the flocks, but we have every reason to believe that the full prices which t bey have produced, pro rata, will induce further improvements."
