COLONIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Sydney. — In consequence of the late lamentable shipwrecks in Bass's Straits, the Government of New South Wales are about to erect four lighthouses there : on Kings Island and C.ipe Otvray, at the western entrance, and on Cape Howe and Kent's Group, at the eastern entrance. — The favorable accounts received of the wool sales in England has caused colonial buyers to contract for the present clip at an advance of 3d. a pound on the prices given last season. The value of hides has fallen 20 per cent The refusal of Ministers to admit Australian corn into England on the same terms as corn from Canada, has caused considerable sensation in New South Wales. Meetings have been held in all parts of the country to petition Parliament on the subject; and a great meeting was about to be held in Sydney to petition the Queen and both houses of Parliament.
South Australia We have Adelaide papers to the 4th of October. Mining operations are carried on with great spirit, and preparations are making for large shipments of copper ore. A vessel from Bremen, with 262 German immigrants, arrived on the 13th of September, and another ship was shortly expected — The Observer states that New Zealand pine would sell well in Adelaide, if a constant supply could be obtained. —A report very generally believed in Adelaide, that the Home Government intend* 'o impose a "rojalty " on all unsold lands lias caused great dissatisfaction in the colony. — A general leave-taking of Captain Grej took place previous to his departure froii. • lie colony — The latest prices are, for wheat. 4s. a bushel; bailey, 3s. to 3s. 6.1. ; flour, £12 to £13 a ton ; potatoes, £6 a ton. A general fall in the price of gum in England lias caused South Australian gum to decline from 85s. to 05s. per cwt.
