GLORIOUS NEWS.

GOVERNOR FITZROY RECALLED. The Carbonj from New Plymouth, has just brought the best news, if confirmed that ever has reached the settlement or the colony. It h to the effect that Governor Fitzßoy has at last been recalled from the scene of his most inglorious and ruinous exertions, and that the policy he has shown the madness of by the process of " reductio ad absurdum " is forthwith to be abandoned by the Home Government, for one more consistent with common sense and the dictates of all experience. We shall content ourselves with giving the news, and the foundation it rests upon, as we have received it. The Rev. W. Bolland, the resident episcopalian clergyman at New Plymouth, reached that place about a fortnight ago in six days from Auckland, and brought word of the arrival there of H.M.S. Osprey (a 12 gun brig) in seven weeks from Sincapore, with the mail of the Daedalus, the officers of which ship had seen a Times newspaper of the 7th June, come by the overland mail, in which it was stated that Sir Robert Peel had said in the house, that though Government approved of Captain Fitzßoy's proceedings, they were going to adopt an entirely different policy towards New Zealand, and had decided upon recalling him. The same paper stated that the new Governor was going out in the Racehorse ; a mistake, as it turns out, but the insertion of which adds confirmation to the previous part of the report. The Racehorse (18 guns), as has been learnt from the Rev. Hanson Turton, who got to New Plymouth from Auckland on Friday week, had arrived at the latter place, having sailed from England with sealed orders, at twelve hours' notice, and called at Hobart Town. She had brought out in specie £80,000 for New South Wales, £60,000 for Van Diemen's Land, and the usual peddling £7,000 for New Zealand ; a supply which to Captain Fitzßoy's wants and expenditure will be no more than a daisy in a hungry cow's mouth. There, is also a report that in reply to a question respecting the Company's affairs, Sir Robert Peel had begged gentlemen to

wait, as those affairs were "in a cour je of amicable arrangement with Government. On the whole we think our fellow-settler.* may begin to get their tar-barrels read} . We have been favoured*with Hhe a )ove intelligence by J. G. Cooke, Esq., of New Plymouth. The following extract is xom a letter written by a gentleman of that p ace, who had just arrived there from Auckland when the Carbon left : — "Peace, a hollow peace, I fear, is already made with Heki. How badly our Governor is advised; but it is the doings of George Clarke, senior, the bishop, and the missionaries. Our new Governor may be expected before Clristmas. Earl Dalhousie and Colonel Bethun ; are mentioned. I believe the Governor recuved official notice of his recal the morning we left Auckland, that is, eight days ago [October 2dj. The Racehorse had arrived from England with specie, leaving £60,000 at Hobart Town, £7,000 for New Zealand, and £80,000 for Sydney. There were three men-of-war in Auckland,! and two at the Bay. At Auckland, the Daphne, Racehorse, and Hazard; at the Bay, the North Star and Osprey. The Coolingatta, brigantine, arrived from Sydney the morning we left, bringing news of 750 troops being on their way, as also one brig and two schooners with war munitions, such as mortars, &c. The Bolina is reported to be foundered at sea, all lands lost, including Dr. Martin and Mr. Brown, of the late Council.'' ,
