PORT NICHOLSON.

The Wellington papers contain but little news beyond what we have extracted.

Rauparaha is said to be dangerously ill at his pa at Otaki, and is not expected to recover.

The whaling season has been productive ; and there is now a large quantity of oil in Wellington waiting for shipment. The loss of the Tyne is a great calamity to our neighbours, as she would have taken home a full cargo of their produce. Instructions have been sent to Sydney to charter a vessel for England, and one is expected down immediately.

A public meeting was held on the 20th ultimo, to consider the draft of a memorial praying for the recal of the Governor. The draft was prepared in Nelson, and transmitted to Wellington a few weeks since. We shall next week publish the report of the meeting.

News from Wanganui states that the Governor, in reply to a memorial from the settlers praying him to settle the land question and put them in possession, tells them to make the best terms they can with the natives, but not to trouble him again on the subject. The natives, when speaking of the Governor, say "he is all the same as a child," and that "in a little time he will go away, and another will come and settle all things."

Wellington Markets, 30th August, 1845.— First flour, £15 to £17 per ton; bread, per 21b. loaf, 5d. ; beef, 6d. to Bd. per lb. ; mutton, 7d. to lOd. per lb. ; pork, 3d. to 4d. per lb. ; fresh butter, Is. lOd. per lb. ; potatoes, £3 per ton.
