LATEST ENGLISH INTELLIGENCE. [From the Sydney Herald, February 26.]
The Penyard Park's mail only comes down to the 30th October, but we have been favoured by Captain Weller with a Times of November Bth, and a Shipping Gazette of November 10th, obtained at Torbay. The news is not very important. The Dublin Grand Jury found a true bill against Mr. O'Connell and the other conspirators, who obtained copies of the indictment, and were allowed the usual period of four days to plead. It was supposed, that the trials would commence about the 13th November; they were expected to last a month. An application was made to the Court of Queen's Bench for a mandamus, directing the Dublin magistrates to hear a charge of perjury preferred by Mr. Barrett against Mr. Hughes, the Government reporter, but the judges refused the application until after the trial of the conspirators. More money was to be extorted from the Irish people in the shape of an O'Connell Compensation Fund, for which collections were to be made throughout Ireland on Sunday, November 19. The Rebecca riots in Wales, we are sorry to say, continued to be exceedingly violent and destructive. Trade remained good: Consols closed on the 10th at 96*. There was a report in town on Saturday evening* that wool had risen 7* per cent., but that evidently alluded to the advances on the August sales, of which intelligence had been previously received. Archdeacon Lonsdale, Principal of King's College* London, was the new Bishop of Lichfield. Mr. Warburton was elected member for K«odfi fey a considerable majority.
