NATIONAL YACHTING EVENTS

IDLE ALONGS AND P CLASS TO SAIL AT AUCKLAND Wellington, This Day. The New Zealand Idle Along and P, or Tauranga, class yacht championships will this season be held at Auckland. The Wellington representatives won both these contests last season, giving their association the prerogative of making the final decision concerning the places of contest for 1946. January 21st has been fixed as the date on which the two championships are to begin. The Wellington association made its decision to hold the contests in Auckland partly to encourage the support of Auckland yachtsmen in Idle Alongs. A recommendation from last season’s championship committee that the events in 1946 be held on Lake Brunner was rejected because of transport difficulties and the frequency of flat calms on the lake. It was decided earlier in the season that the Cornwell'Cup contest would be held on Akaroa Harbour, and the blue riband of New Zealand yachting, the Sanders Cup championships, on Lyttelton Harbour. The former is to begin on 21st January and the X class event on 28th January. The Aurora Sailing Club in Nelson will be starting trials in the near future to decide the Nelson representatives in the Idle Along and Tauranga, or P classes.
