PAMIR’S FIGHT WITH GALE

NEW ZEALAND BARQUE ARRIVES AT VANCOUVER Vancouver, Nov. 30. The New Zealand barque Pamir reached Vancouver after a terrific tenhour fight against a 70 mile per hour gale off Cape Flattery, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and an historic deathtrap for sailing ships. Magnificent seamanship by the captain and crew, heroic rescue efforts by a small tug and the fourmaster’s own superb qualities saved her from being dashed to pieces. The officers said every sail must now be overhauled before the barque sails for New Zealand late in December with 3300 tons of Canadian wheat. The Pamir left Wellington on 22nd September. The New Zealand Government seized the ?amir from Finland during the war.
