RECORD VOYAGE ACROSS ATLANTIC
New York, Nov. 27. The aircraft-carrier, Lake Champlain, bringing back 5000 troops, established an Atlantic average speed record by steaming 3360 nautical miles from Cape Spartel, near Gibraltar, to Chesapeake Bay in 4 days 8 hours 51 minutes, averaging 32 knots. The Queen Mary set the previous crossing record by steamer from New York to the English Channel in 3 days 20 hours 42 minutes, with an average speed of 31.69 knots.
