SCHEME FOR RECUPERATION

HUTCH PROM EAST INPIES ARRANGEMENT WITH N.Z. GOVERNMENT Auckland, Nov., 28. A scheme under which thousands of Duteh civilians from the Netherlands East Indies will come to New Zealand to recuperate after their experiences at the hands of the Japanese, was announced by Mr Jan van Holst Pellekaan, Netherlands Indies Trade Commissioner for Australia, who arrived in Auckland by Tasman flying-boat. Mr Fellekaan was accompanied by Lieutenant-Colonel Barend van Tricht, Netherlands Indies army doctor, and tley were met on arrival by Mr E. F. M. Van Hall, Netherlands vice-consul in New Zealand, Mr Pellekaan, who is visiting New Zealand In connection with the scheme, said the visit of Duteh civilians to the Dt minion was being carried out by arrangement with the New Zealand Gov-, ernraent, The Dutch would be mostly women and children who needed a mild climate in which to recuperate, He pointed out they had had to remain in their camps since Japan’s surrender.
